Renault EVs to Hit Australian Showrooms

Renault recently launched its electric hatchback called Zoe in Australia. The automaker made the car available to fleet buyers last year but has now made it available to private buyers.

“As at the end of June 2018, our sales to fleet customers this year have surpassed our initial sales projections,” said Andrew Moore, Renault Australia general manager.

“Since commencing sales to fleets in late 2017, we’ve seen demand from a passionate group of customers who would like the opportunity to purchase a Renault electric vehicle and we’re thrilled to now be able to offer this.”

Zoe was the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe between 2015 and 2017.

The Zoe range will be offered in two versions called Life and Intens. They are priced at $47,490 and $49,490, respectively.

The car has a 41kWh battery that offers 68kW and 220Nm. Renault says the vehicle has a 300km “real-life range” that can be stretched to 400km.

Moreover, the hatchback can reach 100km/h in 14.5 seconds.

Charging the battery on a 7kW home charging point will take seven to eight hours, or two hours and 40 minutes on a 22kW station.

The Life model will only be offered in white. However, it will come with tire-pressure monitoring, hill start assistance, and a seven-inch touchscreen with digital radio, among other features.

The Intens version, on the other hand, is available in a range of colors. It also comes with rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel, and automatic lights and wipers.

Mr. Moore said the company has carefully constructed a plan to launch its electric vehicles in Australia.

He pointed out that not all showrooms will sell Zoe initially. The company will launch the electric hatchback at four showrooms in the beginning.

He added that Renault is excited about taking a step toward the transition to electric cars in Australia.

“From an Australia point of view, we’ve now taken the next fundamental step in realizing this vision,” said Mr. Moore.
